Pleased to Meet You

Welcome to Snarky Hippie’s inaugural blog! Quite honestly, we’re slightly freaked out. It’s, like, totally a lot of pressure. I guess we’ll lay it down with our origin story.

It all started about seven or ten years ago… it’s all a little fuzzy. We blame the refined sugar. But we digress. After being on a seemingly never-ending journey to find the perfect soap – one that cleansed without drying and legitimately improved the health of our skin – we began to realize that this wasn’t something we were going find in our local department or bath and body store. Instead, we learned about all the damaging chemicals and artificial gunk in mass-produced soap. Initially, we were convinced that the root of all evil was lye. That’s what started our obsession with creating a soap devoid of lye. After several failed attempts that left our shower looking and smelling like a post-apocalyptic dive bar we learned that it’s not possible to make a soap without lye. Lye is actually what makes soap soap and it’s necessary for the saponification process. In a properly formulated soap, there’s none left in the final product. Who knew?

In our epiphany of clarity, we then redirected our mission to create a soap with truly all natural and organic ingredients. It’s then that we came to realize that many handmade soap crafters tout “natural” soaps, but still include artificial colors and scents, and aren’t necessarily required to list those ingredients on their labeling. Totally uncool, you tricky tricksters. After that bummer realization, we decided to make a totally righteous, completely natural, and 100% real soap without any bogus artificial scents and colors.

After being slightly traumatized about what we learned regarding mass-produced and even some handmade soap, we decided to make like Sherlock Holmes and investigate other skincare products. What we found was terrifying. Not as terrifying as the first Halloween movie, but almost. Turns out, many mass-produced skincare products are loaded with chemicals that have been associated with carcinogens, birth defects, organ toxicity, endocrine disrupters, and all other manners of swill. Since our skin can absorb these chemicals, we end up with a polluted cesspool of a bloodstream. We’re not down with that.

In these past seven or ten years, we’ve taken our time to experiment and formulate products with integrity. In the crafting of our soap and skincare products, we use only natural and organic oils and butters, high quality organic essential oils, and other natural and organic ingredients. We never use artificial colors or fragrances. We never test on animals or use products tested on animals. We strive to be responsible with waste. We are committed to be a company that gives back. Simply, we aim to be the grooviest we can be.

Thank you for your support on this long and winding road.
